Voters in St. Albans Town have narrowly defeated a plan to bring round-the-clock police coverage to the Franklin County community.

A recount of votes in town has found that out of 1,009 ballots cast, the measure failed by five votes.

The original margin of defeat was counted at six votes.

The decision means that St. Albans town will stay with using the county sheriff’s department for police coverage for 16 hours a day.
