(Sneyd) In North Springfield, a real estate developer wants to build a plant that would generate 25 megawatts of electricity by burning wood chips.

Winstanley Enterprises develops real estate all over New England, but has not been involved in power generation before now. Adam Winstanley runs the company with his father and brother.

(Winstanley) “The project is a little bit different but I think we’ve assembled a very strong team to help us get to work closely with us to put the project together.”

(Sneyd) The new plant would be built in the Springfield Industrial Park, where Winstanley already owns a building housing three manufacturing companies.

Excess steam produced at the power plant would be piped to heat that building and others in the industrial park.

Vermont utilities are looking for new sources of renewable energy. Winstanley says his company is in talks with Central Vermont Public Service to sell the power.
