A former state official who later helped guide development at Killington ski resort has died.
Carl Spangler passed away at his home in Woodstock on Sunday. He was 61. No cause of death has been released.
Spangler moved to Vermont in 1975 and became commissioner of housing and community affairs under former Governor Richard Snelling two years later.
At Killington, Spangler helped broker a 1997 deal that allowed the resort to set aside land for a ski village in return for protecting bear habitat.
