Southwest Corner: the Village Nook’s Rose Bitensky

(Steve Delaney) In Bennington, the battle monument is unrivalled as a landmark for the community. But for decades, there was another, more subtle marker for residents and visitors to use as a locator. In the middle of downtown Bennington was the Village Nook on Main Street, where the coffee was hot at six in the morning, and teenagers and traveling salesman and newspaper people made up the crowd.

Rose Bitensky and her husband opened the Village Nook in the late 1940s. She’s now ninety, and she remembers almost everything about those years. Ms. Bitensky, welcome to Morning Edition.
