South Burlington Teachers Open Strike Headquarters

The school board in South Burlington says it will hold a special meeting today to discuss a contract impasse that has 275 teachers threatening to walk off the job next week.

The agenda for the session includes just one substantive item — an executive session on collective bargaining.

Meanwhile, about 200 people manned picket lines outside South Burlington High School yesterday. The South Burlington Educators Association, whose members plan to strike Wednesday unless talks resume and lead to a settlement, are setting up a storefront nearby to be the strike headquarters.

School board officials have not formally responded to the strike threat.
