Some UVM classes to grow under budget cuts

Some University of Vermont classes will grow in size to more than 100 students as the university looks to close a $28 million budget cap.

But President Daniel Fogel tells the Board of Trustees that such growth will affect only about 15 of the nearly 3,000 class sections to be offered at UVM next fall.

Fogel says university officials hope to close the budget cap with about $15 million in program savings, $8 million in new revenue by adding about 300 students and $5 million from reserve funds.

A report from the Faculty Senate says professors are dismayed and fearful at the speed with which budget cuts are being made.
