Software To Block Pornography On State Computers

The state of Vermont is planning to spend $120,000 to install software that will prevent employees from viewing pornographic and other inappropriate Web sites from state computers.

Commissioner David Tucker of the Department of Innovation and Information says the state has had problems with employees viewing or downloading pornography at work.

He tells the Rutland Herald there have been instances in which otherwise good employees have misused state computers and a number have been fired, but he couldn’t say how many.

Tucker says the state has a system in place that can monitor employees’ computer use, but it’s outdated and needs to be replaced.

Tucker says he hopes the filtering software will be ready by July 1.
