Ski Areas Thrilled With Snowstorm

The winter storm that dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of southern new England is causing minor inconveniences for travelers in Vermont, but the ski industry is "giddy" that resorts are getting snow during one of the biggest holidays of the season.

The post-Christmas storm comes at the end of a December when temperatures have remained well below freezing enabling ski resorts from one end of Vermont to the other to keep their snowmaking machines poring snow onto mountainsides.

Jenn Butson of the Vermont Ski Areas Association says snow in southern New England is a major factor in getting people to think about skiing. She calls it "back yard syndrome."
