Another big helping of snow is good news for Vermont ski areas.

The Vermont Ski Areas Association says 59 percent of the state’s 1,242 trails are open, compared with 14 percent last year at this time.

The National Weather Service, meanwhile, notes that in the first 13 days of December last year, Burlington recorded 4.2 inches of snow, compared with 13.3 this year.

Okemo Mountain Resort spokeswoman Bonnie MacPherson says she expects the Ludlow ski area to be 100 percent open for Christmas week. Bookings are running way ahead of normal, too, with people calling now to make reservations for later in the winter.

Says Smugglers’ Notch spokeswoman Barbara Thomke: “The snow is everywhere.”
