Police say six members of the Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department are facing charges in connection with a string of arson fires set in the area this spring.

Most of the estimated 18 to 23 fires were brush and grass fires, including several set in federal forest lands. One was a small structure fire.

Police say 17-year-old Charlie Woods and 19-year-old Matt Burnham are facing multiple counts of arson. Twenty-four year-olds Jeff and George Allen have been cited on charges of arson and being an accessory after the fact. Seventeen-year-old Lynn Wade and 22-year-old Jeremy Duchesne also are facing accessory charges.

Police say at least seven members of the fire department set the fires or knew they were being set.

The investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed.
