Supporters of a plan to have the state of Vermont establish a single-payer health care system are headed to Montpelier for a rally.

Medical school students, nurses and other health professionals from New England and beyond plan to press their cause in the Statehouse rally, set for 1 p.m. Saturday. Sen. Bernie Sanders and Gov. Peter Shumlin, who have been vocal advocates of single-payer, will be among the speakers.

The event is being organized by Physicians for a National Health Program.
