Shea-Porter introduces bill to help National Guard with medical care

New Hampshire Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter has helped introduce a bill that would increase medical and dental benefits for members of the National Guard and Reserves.

The bill extends a Guardsman’s or Reservist’s pre-mobilization eligibility for some benefits to one year prior to deployment.

Shea-Porter says it’s a common-sense, bipartisan bill that will make a real difference in the lives of men and woman in the National Guard and Reserve.

The Department of Defense currently requires all members of the military, including members of Guard and Reserve units, to receive an annual dental examination. However, because Guard and Reserve service members are not provided with dental insurance coverage, this requirement forces them to pay for the exam out-of-pocket.
