Senators Call For Wind Development Moratorium

Two Vermont state senators are planning to unveil legislation that would call for a three-year moratorium on large-scale wind power projects in the state.

Senators Robert Hartwell of Bennington County and Joe Benning of Caledonia County say they’ve been hearing from many constituents complaining that there’s been inadequate public participation in deliberations over big ridge-top wind power projects.

The two plan a news conference this afternoon to talk about their proposal.

They’re likely to draw opposition from renewable energy advocates. Gov. Peter Shumlin recently appointed a special siting panel to look at the process of locating renewable energy projects in the state.
