Senate To Consider Bill That Would Save WRJ Postal Facility

Sen. Bernie Sanders says he hopes the Senate will vote on legislation to keep open the mail processing center in White River Junction.

Sanders said Tuesday the U.S. Postal Service has developed a new list of mail processing plants that will remain open. The White River Junction facility employs about 250 workers, and is on that list.

The struggling postal service agreed to delay the closing of thousands of local post offices until May so Congress could pass legislation to shore up the agency’s finances.

Sanders says he hopes the Senate will pass legislation today that will keep about half of the 250 mail processing plants slated to close open instead.
