Vermont transportation officials are reminding drivers that a section of Route 107 in Stockbridge that was washed out by Irene remains closed to all traffic, except emergency vehicles.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation said Tuesday that recent rains have weakened road embankments and caused trees to fall into the construction area, delaying repairs on the 1.5 mile stretch of road.

The road is open to emergency vehicles if necessary but officials say it’s not safe for public use, which means some people will not have access to their homes.

The agency hopes to reopen the road to local traffic later this week, limiting the hours to between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. to keep vehicles off the road during construction.

The exact day and time it will reopen is unknown.
