Sanders praised by The Nation magazine

The Nation magazine – which describes itself as "the flagship of the left" – has labeled Senator Bernie Sanders as the most vital voice on progressive issues in the U.S. Senate.

The freshman senator was included this week on the weekly magazine’s list of the 18 individuals and organizations who were the strongest voices on progressive issues in 2008.

The magazine cited Sanders for recognizing that the economy was heading for a major crisis before many of his colleagues in Washington did.

Sanders says he saw the warning signs because he kept in close contact with his constituents. When he asked Vermonters to send in stories about how the economy was affecting them, his office received 800 responses, many of which Sanders described as "heartbreaking."
