Sanders opposes funding for FAHC anti-union effort

Congressman Bernie Sanders wants state regulators to prevent Vermont’s largest hospital from using funds to pay for anti-union efforts. Sanders recently wrote a letter to members of the state Public Oversight Commission. He’s urging them to deny Fletcher Allen Health Care funds for use in opposing organizing efforts being made by the Vermont Federation of Nurses.

Some Oversight Commission members say the budget they’re reviewing doesn’t have any funds allocated that pertain to the union issue. Hospital officials emphasize that union organizers are spending money on their efforts. But those union members counter that their efforts are being paid for with membership dues rather than public money.
