Rutland school employees due backpay

More than 200 people who have worked at the Rutland South Supervisory Union could be getting some back pay.

A lawyer who filed a class-action lawsuit says a settlement has been reached with the district because some employees were paid less than minimum wage and others weren’t paid in a timely fashion.

Attorney Lars Lundeen says people paid sub-minimum wage will receive double minimum wage for the time worked, minus what they received.

Lundeen says the case began in 2006 after he heard some people were being underpaid and others weren’t being paid on time.

Superintendent Walter Goetz says he’s not sure how the payment problems occurred.

A judge must still approve the settlement.
