Officials with a Rutland county school district say they don’t know the origin of a forgotten bank account they were reminded of recently.

A bank called the Rutland South Supervisory Union to tell officials of an account started in the early 1980s that held $15,000.

The bank told officials if the account remained inactive it would be turned over to the state of Vermont.

The Rutland Herald says the account, which held $15,000, was listed as an "insurance deductible account."

At a meeting last month the district board voted to close the account and put the money into an active account.
