The Rutland Redevelopment Authority is getting into the condo business.

The authority is selling six units in a downtown building, minutes from the train station and other amenities.

Redevelopment Executive Director Thomas Macauley says the price on the units will range from $40,000 to $85,000, depending on size.

The authority will make some basic upgrades to the Center Street building, but it will be up to the owners to outfit their condos.

Macauley says if the group’s first foray into the condo market is successful, it might try to replicate the process in other vacant downtown buildings.

City officials say the plan is a great way to get people to live in downtown Rutland and create a sense of community.
