Rutland’s police chief is recommending that the city dismiss an officer facing criminal charges related to a pornography investigation.

David Schauwecker is accused of taking and viewing pornography seized as evidence in a criminal case without permission from investigating officers.

On Wednesday Schauwecker pleaded not guilty to charges of neglect of duty and making a false report to law enforcement authorities. He’s been on administrative leave since February.

A day later, Chief Anthony Bossi wrote a letter to city officials requesting that Schauwecker be dismissed.

The Rutland Board of Civil Authority will consider the matter April 7.
