A Rutland attorney contracted by the state to handle lawsuits involving prisoners’ rights has been publicly reprimanded for not contacting inmates he was assigned to represent. The Office of Professional Responsibility has put Mark Furlan on probation for one year.

Furlan has a contract with the Vermont Defender General’s office to work as the prisoner’s rights conflict attorney for the entire state.

The terms of Furlan’s probation require him to have another attorney assist him in his practice.
