Rumors of IBM layoffs continue

There are renewed concerns about the prospects for job cuts at IBM, Vermont’s largest employer.

Governor Jim Douglas says he’s spoken to company officials, but they haven’t told him whether there will be layoffs. Still, he points out that the company had a loss of $100 million in the last quarter.

Douglas says IBM officials told him if there are layoffs, workers will be told before the public or state officials.
