Roper: Let’s focus on state legislative races

The chairman of the Vermont Republican party says his party may be in for a tough election year.

Rob Roper says one problem for his party is that, as he puts it, Bush fatigue is a reality out there.

Roper’s comments came as Vermont Republicans gathered in Montpelier for a party convention to pick delegates to this year’s national convention in Minnesota.

Roper says he’s not sure the party will field a candidate against Democratic congressman Peter Welch. The filing deadline is in July.

He says he wants Vermont Republicans to focus on whittling away at the lopsided majorities Democrats hold in the state House and Senate.
