Residents urge donating federal refund to the local economy

Can’t figure out what to do with that tax rebate check you’re getting from Uncle Sam?

Rose-Marie Pelletier of Pownal has an idea: Donate it to your community.

She wants people to contribute some of their $300 to $600 rebates from the federal government as part of the economic stimulus package to an account that would be used to benefit the town.

She says “everybody is getting money they didn’t expect, so everybody is in a position to give.”

Pelletier has suggested setting up a fund to help buy children school supplies.

A small group is spreading the word to other communities.

In Arlington, Mary Ann Carlson hopes to bring up the idea at Town Meeting next week.
