Republican committees in Burke and Lyndon will meet next week to discuss possible candidates to replace longtime legislator Cola Hudson.

Hudson, who served in the Legislature for 34 years, died Jan. 20 after falling ill. He was 81 years old.

The committees in two of the towns he represented in the House will come up with a list of possible candidates to fill his seat.

The nominees will go to the governor, who makes the final decision.

Former state Representative Howard Crawford, who is chairman of the Burke caucus, says he plans to ask that his name be considered for nomination.
