Reptiles seized in Weathersfield bust

Vermont wildlife officials say they’ve seized nearly 100 creatures in Weathersfield, that were advertised for sale on the Internet.

Officials aren’t releasing the address where they found the turtles, newts and salamanders earlier this week. But they say complaints tipped off the department’s special investigative unit to the residence. Game wardens say they found endangered spotted turtles at the home.

Lieutenant Dane Hathaway says officials plan a long-term investigation. It’s not known yet whether any arrests will be made or whether any charges will be filed. Officials say the bust was possibly the first of its kind in state history.
