Report: Vermont has highest college costs

A new report says Vermont continues to have the highest average cost of attending a four-year public college.

The College Board’s annual survey "Trends in College Pricing" lists Vermont’s average in-state tuition at $11,341, up 8.1 percent from the year before.

New Jersey is second highest with an average tuition of $10,739.

The report says nationally the average price of tuition and fees at four-year public universities increased by $394 to $6,585. Private college costs rose 5.9 percent to $25,143.

Vermont also topped the list for tuition and fees for two-year public colleges, at $5,830. New Hampshire followed at $5,609.
