Report: Third of Vermont towns due for reappraisal

The Vermont Department of Taxes says about a third of towns are due for property reappraisals.

The state keeps track of how listed values of properties in a given town compare to market values. As property prices in a town increase, the ratio drops until it hits the level where a town is supposed to reappraise.

With property values dropping off after several years of shooting up, fewer towns are hitting that benchmark, but almost a third of the state remains out of whack. The state says eight towns in Addison County, six in Bennington County, three in orange County, 10 in Rutland County, seven in Washington County, five in Windham County and seven in Windsor County are due for reappraisals.
