Report says change needed at top for Brattleboro Police Department

Citing a lack of faith by rank-and-file officers, a consultant to the Town of Brattleboro is recommending that the town consider shaking up the leadership of its police department.

In a report released yesterday, New Hampshire-based organizational consultant Tad Dwyer says the majority of the Brattleboro Police Department doesn’t believe Police Chief John Martin and patrol Captain Steven Rowell can lead the department into the future.

The report says that morale is low.

Acting Town Manager Barbara Sondag says the decision to hire the consultant was motivated by long-running staffing difficulties in the department.
