Gearing up for a re-election bid, Congressman Peter Welch has raised more than $700,000. And no one has stepped up to challenge him.

Welch collected over $178,000 in the last three months of 2007 according to a campaign finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday. He listed contributions from 430 donors and 46,000 from political action committees whose interests included health care, unions and firefighters.

Welch campaign adviser Carolyn Dwyer said the congressman takes nothing for granted and plans to work hard toward his re-election.

State GOP Chairman Rob Roper said no Republican has stepped forward to challenge Welch, and that Welch’s success in raising money is a factor.
