We didn’t have to go far for today’s Friday Regional Report…even though the reporter we’re speaking with certainly did.

VPR’s John Dillon is among the many media professionals who have been trying to navigate washed out roads and other hazards to report what has been the biggest regional story of 2011—the devastating impact of Tropical Storm Irene.

Other members of the VPR reporting staff who’ve faced—to say the least—logistical challenges, have been Susan Keese, who was flooded out of her own home in southern Vermont and had to re-locate while still filing stories, and Steve Zind, who walked, hitch-hiked and rode his bicycle over Bethel Mountain to get to Rochester and report on the flooding in that community.

VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb spoke with John Dillon about the challenges of covering the flooding.
