Today for our Regional Report we’re taking you to the movies in Brattleboro. And you don’t have to ask which theater, because now there’s only one.

This past spring the Kipling Cinema closed down, leaving the historic, 4-screen Latchis as the only option for checking out the latest films.

Howard Weiss-Tisman has been covering the story for the Brattleboro Reformer and tells VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb that the change has most affected fans of smaller-budget, independent films, which the Latchis usually offers. But so far this summer those movies have given way to more conventional silver screen blockbusters.
