The Democratic incumbent in a race for a Vermont House seat in Shaftsbury has widened her lead in a recount. Monday’s recount finds that Democratic Representative Alice Miller defeated Republican Charles Bushey by 946 to 878.

The town’s voting machine missed eighty marked ballots. Bennington County Clerk Elizabeth Loftus says most of the ballots were clear when counted by hand. Some were marked too lightly to be picked up by the machine. Other ballots were marked with colors other than black, which is all the machine can read.
