Vermont fire investigators say the fire that destroyed the Putney General Store last week was arson.

A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for setting the November 1 fire.

State police say the search for the cause of the fire was aided by the Massachusetts State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Putney Fire Department.

The Putney General Store, first built in the 1700s, was once thought to be Vermont’s oldest continually operating general store. It was damaged by fire in May 2008 and renovations were nearing completion when it was destroyed by the latest fire. An adjoining building, which housed six people and a store, was heavily damaged.

There were no injuries.
