An inmate at the Chittenden Correctional Facility in South Burlington is hospitalized following what officials are describing as a “very serious suicide attempt.”
Corrections Commissioner Steve Gold says the attempt was made early Tuesday morning. Gold says staff intervened and took the inmate to the hospital and the inmate’s family was notified immediately. The name of the inmate was not released and Vermont State Police are investigating the incident.
Last year two inmates committed suicide in Vermont prisons. The deaths of those inmates help spark an investigation that is prompting changes to the state’s prison system.
