Pre-cut trees at a premium as Christmas nears

With four days to go until Christmas, pre-cut Christmas trees are suddenly at a premium in the Barre-Montpelier area.

Experts call the shortage a local phenomenon. In most of Vermont, plenty of retailers have pre-cut trees to sell, but in much of central Vermont, they’re hard to find. Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks and Bragg Farm in East Montpelier are both out.

At Legare’s Farmstand, in Barre, Merrill Legare says he usually has trees right up until Christmas Eve, but that he’s already run out. It’s the same at Boulevard Gardens, which is next door.
