Some children in Pownal who’ve never had dental care, will soon get it.

Officials at Pownal Elementary School say up one-fourth of the students there have never been to the dentist, so the school is collecting donations to bring in a dental hygienist.

School Nurse Carol Harrington says students who are eligible for Medicaid will receive two cleanings a year, at no cost.

A grant of $1,283 from Delta Dental is being used to purchase a fold-up chair, stool and lamp.

A local dentist has donated a dental cart with attachments for cleaning and polishing teeth and other equipment.
