There¿s more Olympic gold for Vermont snowboarders today. Ross Powers of South Londonderry led an American sweep of the halfpipe snowboarding event, winning the gold medal. Danny Kass won the silver and J.J. Thomas won the bronze.
It was the first U.S. sweep of medals in a Winter Olympics’ event since men’s figure skating in 1956.
Powers turned in a score of 46.1. Kass, of Mammoth Lakes, California, was second with 42.5 points and Thomas, who hails from Golden, Colorado, won the bronze collecting 42.1 points.
Powers’ win comes a day after Kelly Clark of West Dover, Vermont, won a gold medal in the women’s halfpipe.
