Power outage has limited effect on Vermont

The power outages in the Northeast and Canada on Thursday afternoon have had only a limited effect on Vermont. Steve Costello at Central Vermont Public Service Corporation in Rutland, says most Vermonters saw only a brief interruption or flickering of lights.

Costello says Vermont was lucky that it felt the outages only minimally because, when it comes to power, the systems are all connected. He says the utility is keeping a close eye on the situation.

An official with the Vermont Electric Power Company says some places in Highgate and Swanton lost power. And at Green Mountain Power, a spokesman says the utility was unaware of any customers being affected.
