Hockey players in northern climes have long known that you don’t need a rink, goals, a Zamboni and two full teams to play a game. A few friends, a patch of ice and something to lay down as a goal comprises enough to get the action started. This is pond hockey.
And at this time of year, there are a number of pond hockey tournaments around the state for those anxious to lace up the skates and do a little stick handling.
This weekend we visited the Vermont Pond Hockey Classic, played on Fairfield Pond in Franklin County.
