Progressive Anthony Pollina plans to run for governor in 2008.

Pollina made his announcement to members of his party Saturday at the Progressive state convention in South Royalton.

Pollina ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2000 and lieutenant governor in 2002.

He has pursued Democratic support for his gubernatorial candidacy against three-term Republican incumbent Jim Douglas but Democratic Party leaders say they plan to have their own candidate.

Senate Majority Leader John Campbell of Windsor, former state senator Matt Dunne of Hartland and Peter Galbraith of Townshend are possible Democratic candidates.
