The battle of the Springfields continues!

Last week, Congressman Peter DeFazio, of Springfield, Oregon, sent a tongue-in-cheek letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez.

DeFazio asked for an investigation of how Springfield, Vermont, won the right to host the movie premiere of The Simpsons,” over his own hometown.

Today, Vermont Congressman Peter Welch struck back, saying the whole thing sounds like a bad case of sour Oregon cherries.

In his own spoof letter, Welch says Gonzalez is busy at the moment, fielding inquiries from another Vermont resident.
That would be U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, who is leading the investigation into the firing of U.S. attorneys.

As for whether Homer and company belong in Vermont, Welch points out that Homer’s favorite breakfast is a “nice glass of syrup.”
