Police warn against false Amber Alert

Vermont State Police are advising the public to ignore a false Amber Alert that is being sent via text message to some cellular phones.

They say there are no active Amber Alerts in Vermont right now, though there is one for four missing children in Massachusetts.

Amber Alerts use cell phone messages and mass media notifications to alert the public about a missing child who is feared to be in immediate danger.

The false Amber Alert warns of two kidnapped girls with a suspect driving a brown Jeep Liberty SUV.

Again, police say the alert is false, and that there are no Amber Alerts active in Vermont.
