Vermont State Police say two people were killed in separate crashes on snow covered roads in different parts of the state.

Police say that just before 1 p.m. Tuesday a van spun out of control on U.S. Route 4 in Mendon and collided with a vehicle traveling in the other direction. The van caught fire and the unidentified driver was killed.

The driver of the second vehicle was not seriously hurt.

Later Tuesday, police say a car driven by 44-year-old Kimberly Covillon of St. Albans spun out of control and went into the median of Interstate 89 in Colchester where it rolled over several times. Covillon was killed.

Police say speed and road conditions were factors in the Colchester crash.
