Police in Rutland say a former city attorney has been identified as the driver in a hit-and-run accident that killed a woman.

Police said Thursday evening that 53-year-old Christopher Sullivan has been identified as the driver. He has not been charged with any crimes, although charges are pending.

The Rutland Herald reports that the crash killed 71-year-old Jane Outslay who died hours after she was struck while crossing Strongs Avenue at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Chief James Baker says the Rutland County state’s attorney and the Vermont attorney general’s office are reviewing the case.
