New York state police say a body found by a fisherman in Lake Champlain may be that of a woman who went missing along with her canoe from a family camp on the New York shore last fall.

The Plattsburgh Press-Republican quotes police authorities as saying there are indications that 56-year-old Francine Marcel’s body has been found, but an autopsy is being done to confirm the identification. Marcel was reported missing after she went to close the camp for the winter in November and didn’t return home to Morrisonville.

Searchers found her car at the camp in Beekmantown, but her canoe and life vest were gone. Vermont state police were called when the body was found Monday. New York troopers have joined the investigation.
