The Vermont State Police and Dover police are investigating what is being called the untimely death of a man hit by two state police cruisers while laying in Route 100.

Police say they still don’t know yet what killed 22-year-old Gerald Peterson of Dover.

An autopsy is planned for today.

Police say the troopers were headed south at about 2:50 a.m. yesterday when they were unable to avoid an object in the road that turned out to be Peterson.

Route 100 was closed for much of the day so investigators could go over the scene.
