A St. Johnsbury physician is going to testify on Capitol Hill about the high cost of using emergency rooms for non-urgent services.

Dana Kraus is a family practice physician from Northern Counties Health Care and will be among the witnesses today at the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions’ subcommittee on health and aging.

Senator Bernie Sanders chairs the subcommittee. He has requested a Government Accountability Office study on how to ease burdens on emergency rooms.

The hearing is set for 10:00 a.m. in Washington.
