Phish trash left behind after concert

Police are warning Northeast Kingdom residents against picking through the trash left by fans from the weekend Phish concerts.

Garbage was left alongside the roads after the concert and some residents have been searching for redeemable bottles, but Vermont State Police say that is creating a potential health issue.

Employees at the local division of the state Agency of Transportation expect to spend several days cleaning up the waste.

The tens of thousands of fans who descended on Coventry last week left garbage along roads leading to the concert, including the two major routes to the show, Interstate 91 and US Route 5.

The concert organizer, Great Northeast Productions, will reimburse the state for the cleanup costs.
